Kamadhenu Gaushala

Swadhyay Mandal Vedic Research Institute. Founder: Brahamarshi, Padmabhushan, Pandit Shripad Damodar Satavlekar.(1867-1968) Year of Establishment: 1918

Swadhyay Mandal is actively engaged in protecting and nurturing indigenous cows. They form a vital part of our culture in general and rural economy in particular. It is maintaining a Goushala with 50 cows at present. All of them are of Gir breed. Swadhyay Mandal is propagating the economical way of maintaining cows in rural households. It has also published two volumes titled ‘Gojnana Kosha’[Encyelopedia], written by Panditji.

As a result of sustained efforts for many years by various Indian institutions and social workers, the worth of an Indian cow is now recognised not only in India but also abroad. Thousands of Goushalas are maintained in India, many of them, on scientific basis. Demand for Indian cows has greatly increased in countries like Australia and Canada and in Europe as well. Breeders there are nurturing and maintaining cows on a scientific and commercial basis.

The Goushala is running a Gobar gas plant as well for use of gas in the Swadhyay Mandal campus. Apart from selling milk and preparing medicines from the ingredients yielded by the cows, the Goushala is also marketing the following products useful in agricultural farming.

Goumutra Cow’s urine useful for purifying the soil and the seeds and as an ingredient in the Hindu way of worship.

Keeta Niyantrak Pesticide without adverse side effects, particularly useful for spraying on mango and lime trees and flower plants.
