Swadhyay Mandal Vedic Research Institute. Founder: Brahamarshi, Padmabhushan, Pandit Shripad Damodar Satavlekar.(1867-1968) Year of Establishment: 1918

Sanskrit is the oldest and richest language in the world and the oldest literature is available in Sanskrit only. It is also the mother and source of most Indo European languages. Sanskrit has enriched and continues to enrich most of the Indian regional languages. Consequently it is the most effective instrument for preservation of India’s national integrity and unity.

Research shows Sanskrit to be the most scientific language and ideal for computer use. The knowledge of Sanskrit is therefore indispensable for scientific study of old civilisations and modern Indo-European languages. It can enrich us by introducing us to our ancient culture, tradition and literature. It is therefore the paramount duty of every Indian to learn, to teach, to hear and to speak Sanskrit language. Panditji realised from his early age the vital importance of Sanskrit in our national life and devoted himself to its propagation.

The approach towards this propagation has been twofold : self education and institutional education.

Sanskrit Swayamshikshak Panditji specially designed and published series of books in Hindi, Marathi, Gujrati and English to help self-study of Sanskrit at home. They are as follows.
Sanskrit Self Teacher [English], Sanskrit Pathmala [Hindi] and Sanskrit Swayamshikshak [Gujarati and Marathi]. The English and [Hindi/Gujrati] series is in 18 parts while Marathi and Hindi series is in 24 parts.

Employed persons , housewives and otherwise busy persons can not often attend regular course for learning Sanskrit. These series help them learn Sanskrit at home and in their spare time without external help of a teacher. All that they have to do is to spare one hour daily according to their convenience to study Sanskrit at home. This will help them master Sanskrit to the extent that they can understand by themselves classics like Ramayana, Mahabharata, Shrimad Bhagvad Gita and other valuable Sanskrit literature. To help them on the way and to others as well Swadhyaya Mandal has published the following auxiliary books.

Subodh Sanskrit Vyakaran[Hindi,Marathi]
Sanskrit Namarupavli[Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati]
Sookti Sudha [Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati]
Sulabh Sanskrit [Marathi, Gujarati]
